Finding the Middle Ground: Why I Chose “Soft & Slow”

Beyond the Trends of Luxury and Homesteading
If you’ve spent any time on social media lately, you’ve likely seen two very different versions of "escaping the grind."
On one side, there is the "Soft Life" movement. It’s all about femininity, luxury, and ease. On the other, there is the "Slow Living" movement—the world of homemade bread, gardening, and a return to a simpler, domestic pace.
I fell in love with both. I am a woman who loves the hustle; I love the spark of a new idea and the drive to build something. But as a mother, wife, daughter, and sister, the reality is that I can’t always "lock in" and shut out the world to chase a dream. Life is loud.
As I looked at these two movements, I realised that while both offered beauty, neither quite fit the reality of the modern woman.
The Allure (and Pressure) of the "Soft Life"
The "Soft Life" is a beautiful concept, especially for women who have historically been expected to be "strong" above all else. It gives us permission to embrace luxury, softness, and ease.
The Pros: It validates our right to be cared for and to enjoy the finer things without guilt.
The Cons: It often feels unattainable. Whether it’s the suggestion that you need a "sugar daddy" to fund it, or the pressure to work yourself to the bone now to achieve "financial freedom" later, it often replaces one type of burnout with another. It isn’t always sustainable for a woman who wants to build her own legacy while being present for her family.
The Romance (and Restriction) of "Slow Living"
Then there is the "Slow Living" movement. This is the dream of the homestead—baking from scratch, staying home, and savouring every quiet second.
The Pros: It offers a much-needed breath of fresh air. It values the moments with our children that are so easily lost in the rush.
The Cons: For many, the "traditional housewife" aesthetic can feel just as restrictive as the corporate ladder. Not everyone has the financial freedom to live on a single income, and for many ambitious women, staying entirely within the home feels like dimming their own light.
The Compromise: The Art of Soft & Slow
For me, The Art of Soft & Slow Living is the beautiful middle ground. It’s a compromise that doesn't feel like a sacrifice.
It’s about following my dreams and honouring my ambition, but doing it in a way that allows me to be present. It’s about reducing the noise so I can hear my own values, rather than the pressures of society or the latest TikTok trend.
In this space:
Success might look different than it did in my twenties.
Luxury isn't just about price tags; it’s about the luxury of time and clarity.
Slowing down isn't about quitting; it’s about sifting.
I no longer want to move with every trend. I want to move with my heart. I want a life that is as productive as it is peaceful—one that is true to who I am, in every season of motherhood and business.
